FDA hearings on amalgams and testimony by Charlie Brown on the issue of so called silverfillings

Dear friends worldwide:
Joshua Sharfstein is no longer the Deputy Commissioner of the U.S. FDA. Sharfstein, who approved the abysmal amalgam rule after Commissioner Margaret Hamburg claimed to be recused for ethical reasons, exits the U.S. government, and is now relegated to running the health department in a small U.S. state. What a gigantic fall from power for the 2d most powerful person in the world?s most powerful regulators of drug, devices, and food!
What it means for our cause: With Sharfstein gone, the Food and Drug Administration can take a fresh look at amalgam.
Now it?s time to turn the heat on the in-house dentist at the World Health Organization, P E Petersen, who is engaged in all means of deceit and arrogant power grabs to try to push amalgam out of the coming world mercury treaty. In my letter to WHO Assistant Director-General Ala Alwan, below, I call on WHO, as a matter of integrity, to ask for Petersen?s resignation.
In seeking Petersen?s exit last night, little did I know that, on this side of the Atlantic, America?s best known protector of toxic amalgam was exiting!
I invite my colleagues worldwide to write WHO Assistant Director-General Alwan, alwana@who.int, and call for WHO to seek Petersen?s resignation; be sure to cc WHO Director-General Margaret Chan, ChanM@who.it
Here are some of the reasons WHO must oust Petersen:
(1) Petersen is trying to reinstate amalgam ? a primitive, pollutant from the 19th century ? as the standard filling for the world. He is promoting the economic interests of the trade group FDI, because this pro-mercury faction of dentists are threatened by ART (which can be done by non-dentists, cutting into the profits of Petersen?s allies), and by the mercury-free dentists (who have received post-dental school training in order to practice 21st-century dentistry, unlike Petersen?s poorly trained allies).
(2) Using WHO?s name, Petersen engineered a propaganda paper aimed at trying to get amalgam exempted from the treaty and to stop the U.S. FDA from acting against amalgam ? a work which ignores the great successes in countries rich and poor to phase out, successfully, this pollution-laden product, and which suggests dentists have no duty to switch to non-polluting materials..
(3) Petersen commandeers for himself the power to set WHO policy, running roughshod over nations and regions which have asked UNEP to write a treaty which phases out amalgam. Yet it is the nations, not Petersen, who set WHO policies.
PE Petersen puts dentists? profits over children?s health. He must be stopped from using WHO to achieve such mercenary goals.
Thank you.
Charlie Brown
